The Start of

on the hill events

“On the Hill” is perched in the middle of a 640-acre family farm in Brookfield Township. The Mead family has owned and operated a dairy business, a construction business, a logging business and currently operating a USDA meat processing facility here on the farm and another in Sulphur Springs Texas, we are still finding creative ways to afford to keep their heritage.

Rick’s father, Dick Mead, was a youth baseball coach in the 70s, and at that time, the number of teams outnumbered the available fields to practice and play on. Well, problem solved, dad bulldozed a spot on his farm and held practice. That space has always been called “On the Hill”. And since, been the site of many memories with family and friends. The old pavilion, built with remnants of an old farmhouse at the foot of the hill, lent shelter for years of fun camping, picnicking, and archery shoots.

Some of our daughter’s fondest memories are on the hill and when it was time, our middle daughter, Traci, wanted to get married there, under the huge oak tree that is now the logo for “On the Hill”. Okay, we’ll update the pavilion and have a wedding. It soon became apparent that the pavilion was not going to house all of the guests and the plan for all of this fell into place. The pavilion was started in May of 2020, the large building was started in June of 2020 and her wedding was at the end of August of 2020. It was a frenzy of work, it wasn’t finished, but our terrific construction crews pulled it off so that we could hold a beautiful wedding. Other family members have since been married there, the word is out and calls are coming and so a new business is now in the horizon.
